Open Shop

–
October 7, 2026

The intent of the open shop time is to provide club members with a place to come, turn, share experiences, and interact with other club members.

Here’s how this is going to work.

  1. For three months (Oct, Nov, Dec 2026), we will operate the KLC as an open shop on the 1st Wednesday of the month.
  2. Hours will be from 6-9 pm.
  3. The shop will be open to club members only.
  4. No sign-up is required.
  5. No cost for participating.
  6. Attendees must review the KLC Usage and Safety Rules, prior to attending open shop time and must complete a KLC Waiver Form, if they don’t already have one on file. Email if you need a copy.
    • Bring the signed waiver form to the KLC and give it to the Monitor before you begin any work.
  7. Attendees will provide their own wood, tools, and personal protective equipment (face shields are required and must be ANSI Z87+ certified).
    • The KLC has tools and face shields for those that don’t have them, but tools must be resharpened and put back in the storage racks, when done.
    • Dust masks are recommended but not required.
  8. The KLC Committee will provide a certified facility Monitor.  This individual is there to ensure the safe operation of the tools and equipment at the KLC and is the final voice concerning facility safety (see KLC Safety Rules).  He or she is not there to provide turning expertise or assistance with projects, but may do so, consistent with their skill level and so long as it doesn’t compromise shop safety.
